During the Leipzig Games Convention 7 videos were released; five of Episode 2, one of Portal, and the other of Team Fortress 2. Although expected, the gameplay shown comes as a big surprise to Half-Life Fans. The videos showcase the enormous changes to the Source engine, mainly giving fans a glimpse at the various environments involved during gameplay. The five Episode 2 videos run between 1 and 2.5 minutes long. They are a must see!

The minute and a half Portal clip is dealing with a few of the challenges that you will face as you advance in the game. These puzzles are very creative and show how Valve has stepped up to the plate to create loads of fresh content to even the most experienced gamers.

And for Team Fortress, comes a 3 minute and 20 second video that will change gaming forever, well at least for Valve. The video portrays how each character’s uniqueness can be useful in a situation. Though the video is not of actual game play, it does appear to be filmed in-game (they decided to use the games signature map for the video, 2fort), meaning action sequences are similar to what you might actually experience.

You can expect all three of these games on shelves Q1 of 2007 (most likely February). Be sure to check out each video (I can't stress it enough), especially the 5th one, displaying how destructive the Source engine can be.

Along with so much content; Fortress-Forever, the unofficial Source mod of Team Fortress Classic, has been gaining attention. In the past week the dev team has released media not only showcasing in-game shots of each of the nine classes; the Sniper, Medic, Scout, Heavy Weapons, Pyro, Spy, Engineer, Soldier, and Demoman. But even the special scenarios, for example the images also show the maps where a team might be yellow instead of the default colors, red and blue. The special character from the hunted map was also shown.

So there you have it, the hype is here. To many gamers, this feels like an era not too different from when Half-life 2 was first released, ok maybe not, but its close. Developers from both Valve and the 3rd party mod Fortress-Forever are very hard at work making a move to create the best game possible. I believe that this is a win-win situation for the gamers. While you’re waiting for Episode 2 you can play Fortress-Forever (although it is still in beta, a public play test is sure to come soon enough). And when Episode 2 has come and gone, eventually you will be tired (maybe not) of messing around in Portal, you can decide to play the included Team Fortress 2 (the animated/cel-shaded one) or the unofficial Fortress-Forever, the upgraded continuation of Team Fortress Classic. Even though each game is very different from the other, if your a Half-Life fan, check these games out!
