Hungarian PC gaming magazine PC Guru has a front-page story detailing exclusive news about Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3. Hungarian subscribers will recieve this magazine on Thursday.
Anyone interested in the franchise has been waiting for another Red Alert, and this is surely great news indeed and we hope that this isn't a repeat of this Gears of War story that turned out to be a big fuss about nothing.
Red Alert 3 was recently announced and we've all being trying to discover what little information we can about it. Hagren has informed us about some information he obtained from the PCGuru magazine article that revealed the announcement of Red Alert 3.
The screenshots haven't revealed a huge amount of details on what the engine can handle, but we're told that there's going to be massive damage in RA3, with weapons carving colossal craters in the ground.
Structures will now be placeable on water, but at an extra cost. The graphics are also said to be far greater than those of Command & Conquer 3, but the newly released screenshots don't reflect this.
The campaign can also be co-operatively played, but if you haven't got a friend handy then you'll be able to choose between a selection of AI allies. The gameplay will also be much slower, an aspect that the team concluded from Tiberium Wars.
Live-action FMVs are also back and mixed with CGI and outdoor scenes. Yuri isn't going to make a come back for those of you that were huge fans of his.
These details could be incorrect, but they seem fairly legit to us.
Here's a full list of details:
- Every unit has secondary functions. The allied tank for instance is able to concentrate radar beams to be used as a scouting unit.
- Altough not visible on the screens, there's going to be massive damaging in RA3, with weapons carving colossal craters into the ground.
- Most structures are placeable on water for extra cost.
- Ships can only leave shore on sand, so its crucial to defend these areas.
- The article writer claims that the impressive graphics don't shine through the screens. In his opinion, graphics are much better compared to CnC3, and he's especially flabbergasted by the animations.
- The Russians have a submarine called the 'Akula' which isn't simply deadly against ships, but is able to train divers as well.
- The Bullfrog transport ship doesn't have to set shore, its able to 'shoot' out the units it's carrying
- The Japanese Seawing bomber is able to transform into a submarine simply by falling into the water.
- Sea battles will be crucial in this game.
- The Japanese enroll a water-affin tank called 'Tsunami', which is both heavily armoured and powerful, and slower on land than in water.
- The campaign can be co-operatively played with a friend from start to finish. If there's no one to play it with, you can choose between an array of AI allies to fight the war.
- StarCraft2's lead designer worked on RA3 before he went to Blizzard.
- Gameplay will be much slower, an aspect, along with the beta, that the team concluded from TW. The writer confirms this slowdown.
- Enemy soldiers freeze upon Allied dogs barking.
- The Mobile V4 is able to swim as well, but its main draw points is the precise and area-effective attack.
- The Russians submarine, the Stingray Nasad, sports tesla-launchers, and is a rather small, but fast unit.
- The writer praises the smooth animations, explosion effects and water in general again and again, its crazy!
- Live-action FMVs are back mixed with CGI and outdoor scenes!
- The writer holds that RA3 wont be as good as SC2, but damn close, and even better than RA2.
- No Yuri.
- Atmosphere is top notch.
- Expansion pack is already planned
The Polish magazine Click! has revealed a few more interesting details about Red Alert 3. As the magazine is in Polish we can't read it, but thanks to a C&C community member, Kodaemon, we do know the interesting bits that were revealed by the magazine.
Tanya is said to have a portable time machine that allows her to move back in time a few seconds, which resets her position and health. This should generate some useful strategies online.
Product Manager David Silverman has said that the Japanese Empire will develop in a completely different manner than the Allies and Soviets do, it'll also get its own full campaign mode.
One of the more powerful superweapons is the “Gravity Cannon”, capable of pulling satellites out of orbit and hurling them down at the enemy.
None of these details have been confirmed by EA, but if we hear anything more about Red Alert 3 we'll be sure to let you know.
This is absolutely stunning news. I am praying to be an actually good game.
I am afraid all the big fans of C&C are largely dissapointed by EA's policy concerning these games.

Most important stuff:
General Information:
* The new Apoc tank looks awesome, and you’ll be seeing its upgrades in the very near future. For now, know that it has a tractor beam and a giant generator (Magnetic Harpoon) on its back. Grinders go out side to side. The grinder eliminates any enemies that get in the Apoc’s way, chewing them up to nothing.
* Unit scale is highly unrealistic in gameplay, but it works. Dolphins may appear the size of submarines…but hey, you know it’s a dolphin.
* Ore does not deplete! Once “depleted” only 25% of the original resources can be attained.
* Heidleberg returns, and it looks great. Even has a park and beer gardens.
* Mcburger Kong returns.
* There are 12 different locales in the game, each one very different and very colorful.
* Weather effects are all present, but none of them actually take part in the gameplay. They are all purely aesthetic.
* Fog is now cleared downhill, but not uphill (meaning if units are on top of a hill, they can see far below, but units under a hill cannot see above it).
* Powers are introduced, and some are listed below. Powers are special abilities players can use over time to do a number of things, such as special attacks. They are illustrated by a number on the bottom left corner of the screen, where over time points are built up. Based on how well the game is going for the player, more points may be added over less time, meaning they have access to more power ups.
* Soviet Power ups include: Orbital Refuse, which drops satellites from the sky like bombs; Tractor Beam, which picks units off the battlefield and into space, to later drop them with Orbital Refuse; Time Bomb, which is just that.
* There is a third faction, which has been mentioned only as the “Empire of the Rising Sun.”
The Allies:
* Dolphins act just like real dolphins, meaning they can swim backwards if commanded, jump out of the water (out of the way of torpedoes or over electrical-based attacks).
( A support “Cryo Copter” aircraft shoots an ice beam, dubbed the “freeze beam” (ray would be better). This slows down enemies and, with enough time, freezes them in their tracks. They thaw out over time and no damage comes from this, but frozen enemies can be broken like ice. * The Cryo Copter’s secondary ability is a shrink ray, which literally shrinks friendly or enemy units, making them function on cartoon physics, and of course prone to being run over by tanks.
* The Dog has been fixed. Instead of having the Dog and Bear be basically equal (and have horrid biting fights between them) the Dog has a secondary ability to bark loudly, stunning nearby enemies. It also can go in the IFE for an extended bark attack, having a larger radius of damage.
* Building walls are now included, meaning fortifications can be made for the Allies.
* Base hubs now share tech, meaning only one upgrade is needed for all buildings to produce higher level units or buildings. It also means that if the Command Center is destroyed, all buildings lose their upgrades.
The Soviets:
* The Czar Tank, otherwise known as the Hammer, can steal health and weapons from vehicles. Its rockets cannot be shot down anymore. The Hammer’s secondary weapon shoots smaller, scattered bombs.
* The Tesla tank is not returning to Multiplayer, but it will appear in specific missions for the Single Player campaign.
* The Dreadnaught’s secondary attack makes it shoot faster, but it takes damage while doing so.
* The Acula Submarine’s secondary weapon are dumbfire “super” missiles.
* The Bear is now amphibious, so it is equivalent to both the Dog and Dolphin (somewhat).
I Hope this is not Fake, Red alert 2 had a little bit too much Kiddy colored Buildings and such, but im looking forward to REd alert 3 ofcourse.
